“During my stay as Artist in Residence, I got the idea of an artistic retreat of concentration, following on from the practice of monastic retreats, in which I would like to develop an artistic form for my idea of linking text and painting, of written and painted thoughts: The basic idea behind the project is the idea of the “first book”, which subsequently spawned an entire monastery library by copying, translating and writing new texts. I will not arrive with an existing book, but I will create an artist’s book on site, in the tradition of the great church bibles, inspired by the collection of the Maulbronn Literature Museum, and the texts I will find there, as well as new texts and images that will be created by copying or writing a new and which I will translate into a new artistic medium. I will also be out and about outside the studio, e.g. at various places in the monastery and in the surrounding area, to draw and/or paint on location.”
