I believe there are secret connections between the plant world and the rules of harmony in all art forms. We all know that the proportions of the Golden Ratio underlie the growth of plant structures. A piece of music and a plant have so much in common, both created by equally logical and simple laws. In the spirit of Hermann Hesse’s The Glass Bead Game I have been meditating on this theme. I had a lot of time to be in the company of plants, a treasured time for attention. I have been observing them and listening to their language in the precious moments of their spring awakening. The monastery in Maulbronn was the starting and finishing point of my explorations into nature. Here the plant motifs, painted or carved in stone, show how plants have always had the power to lead us to a higher dimension.
